Inspiration
To be honest, this cake has been a journey to me. I have had the opportunity to think about life in the many, many hours that I spent designing and executing this cake.
I have goose bumps as I write this review, and I bet you will too, by the time you are done reading.
"We are celebrating uncle Willie's 80th birthday, and we would like you to make a special cake for him".
Great!, I said. What can you tell me about your uncle?, I said.
"Uncle Willie is a Holocaust survivor", my friend said.
"When Poland was invaided by the Nazis, uncle Willie's parents were murdered. He, being a young child, seek refuge in the forest, and that's how he survived the war".
"Not only did he survived, but thrived. Today uncle Willie lives a comfortable live in Canada. As you can imagine, he has a special connection with nature. Today he lives surrounded by lake views".
"Our family will be is celebrating other festivities, and members are flying here from around the world. Some of his friends from childhood, that survived the war with him are coming too. We want to take advantage, and pay homage to uncle Willie, who is our family patriarch", my friend said.
I thought about this story, about the progression of our lives, about the resilience of the human being. From hardship to blossom. Of wisdom, serenity and strength, just like nature itself.
Happy 80th Birthday, uncle Willie.
